Australia Day
The Australia Day concert held on the forecourt… of the statuesque Sydney Opera House is the perfect wrap to the day’s events.
Australia Day symbolises and celebrates the diverse blend of cultures and beliefs that melds together to make us ‘the lucky country’. From the traditional landowners in our first nation people to the descendants of the first settlers and the various array of migrants from all over the world, we come together on this special day. The cultural melting pot of cuisines, music, dance, arts, dress and traditions makes Australia a special place.
January 26th is a day of showing our respect, acknowledgement and appreciation of the vast and varied cultural traditions that are offered by each of us. It’s a day that is celebrated with many events held all over the country, showcasing the talent and diversity that is Australia and its people.
Megadeck took pride in supplying a number of staging elements to assist in the performances and the production of this amazing event. On the production level, we supplied a custom ‘monitor lip’ which was fitted around the entire perimeter of the downstage area and the stage thrust. This innovative creation provided the perfect staging to surround the whole performance area with monitors designed to enhance the sound quality of the event. To ensure that this practical necessity didn’t distract the audience from the performance at hand, it was discreetly clad in a black, double-sided fascia.
Megadeck’s contribution to the performances included a number of staging pieces. Adding to the main stage, we provided an elevated choir riser which was positioned upstage to provide ideal sightlines for viewers while enhancing the integration of the performances as a whole. Megadeck also supplied a number of staging units to accommodate specific musical elements such as the conductor podium, harp stage and operator surround. The operator (or op’s) surrounds are created using low height drape solutions to discreetly hide the operators working at sound and control desks.
The choir staging consisted of 30 x .2m x 1.2m ‘halfdeck’ stages at a height of 450mm which was positioned around the Northern Forecourt of the Sydney Opera House. Due to their lightweight and portability, these small, standalone risers are ideal as ‘remote’ or ‘satellite’ stages. Set against the stunning backdrop of the famous Sydney harbour, it is no wonder the Opera House forecourt was chosen for this momentous Australia Day concert event.
