Maton at MAAS with Megadeck

Megadeck Staging has proudly supplied the perfect backdrop for the stunning display of iconic Australian brand, Maton Guitars at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney.

The Event

This event is aptly titled ‘Maton: Australia’s Guitar’ and retrospectively visits Maton’s beginnings and travels through its history, observing and appreciating its impact on the Australian music scene. With over 130 guitars, ukuleles, lap steels and amplifiers as the storytellers, it was crucial for their display to be visually stunning, allowing each piece to shine.

The Challenge

Our challenge was to provide staging to showcase these amazing instruments, each a star in its own right. The large number of pieces required that the display be set up in a tiered form to ensure each piece would be entirely visible and in a position to be fully observed and appreciated by event goers. The design was required to accommodate the existing columns at the venue by subtly wrapping around them, thus blending them into the display. With the exhibits including guitars from music legends Harry Vanda (The Easybeats), Tommy Emmanuel and Diesel, it was crucial for the staging to be stable and secure, providing safety for every piece in the collection.

Megadeck Magic

By taking precise measurements of the exhibition area, we were able to design and fabricate the staging to span the width of the venue and securely encase the existing pillars, incorporating them into the overall finish.

In keeping with the industrial style of the event, the signature Megadeck stage frame tied in beautifully, blending with and complimenting the overall vibe. The exposed webbing of the tiered structure mimicked the trussing and the paired back lighting rigs throughout the room. With masterful installation we were able to create a display to beautifully showcase each of the Maton pieces without compromising on quality or aesthetic.

This stunning selection of Maton guitars is a part of the personal collection of Bankstown-based instrument collector Wadih Hanna.
