A pop-up dance floor comprised of specialised energy floor tiles, captured the power of kinetic energy from human movement and transformed it into electrical energy. This unique product was installed at Sydney’s Convention Centre Forecourt for the month of January.
The kinetic tiles as can be seen below are the dark squares that were encased by coloured tiles for colour and contrast. Each of the coloured tiles was individually produced by Megadeck to precisely fit with the assortment of uniquely shaped tiles as no two tiles were exactly the same size. Made as sturdy wooden panels, each of these were manufactured to withstand the dynamic loads that were an inevitable feature of the performance piece.
For a safe and seamless entry onto the dancefloor, ramp edges around the entire structure were required. The Megadeck carpentry team crafted each ramp to match the precise height of the dancefloor whilst accounting for the undulating outdoor surface.
Applied to the whole area was a special non-slip surface so as to provide the general public with a safe and user-friendly material that made dancing in any weather condition possible.
